I am amazed at the wonderfully warm Autumn days we have been experiencing. Who would think we would have days in the 70’s in mid-October. Our garden continues to produce but I know that in just days this will come to an end with the first frost.
Tomato Basket The photo I am including is a basket of fresh tomatoes just picked. We have plenty so you can guess what is on the menu at our house! I am still nurturing the last red fruit from these vines to benefit from this warm sunshine.
I am now “tucking in” the tomatoes and the other plants that are still producing by covering them with an old bed sheet at night. This will help you buy a little veggie basket smtime until you can pick your last harvest. I am going to miss this garden when it finally goes to sleep for the winter!
If you still have an abundance of tomatoes and limited freezer space, you might like to try canning them at home. I have to admit this was the first time I have canned tomatoes but it is really easy.
Fresh is always best but if you would like more information about how to safely preserve good food to enjoy later, let me know.
