“Good health is the primary core to what we do.”
Taste Cafe and Fine ArtIf you have been looking for a new place to have coffee and enjoy breakfast or a health conscious lunch, check out Taste Café and Fine Art at the corner of Howard and 2nd in Spokane. Formerly the Taste Café and Gourmet to Go, Taste Café has a new ambiance with paintings from local artists so you feel like you are dining in a small gallery.
Friends have remarked that Taste Café has the feel of a small neighborhood place you might find in New York or San Francisco so you can also experience feeling like you are on a travel adventure, right here in our home town.
When owners Jim and Mary Ann McCurdy bought Taste Café on the first of last November, I am not sure that they knew they were “stepping up to the plate, to hit a home run” as neither Jim nor Mary Ann had been restaurateurs and this was a new venture. However, since Jim in President of the Pioneer Baseball League, the analogy I just used fits! They wanted a health conscious small neighborhood venue with great energy, that is inviting and is a place that everyone can enjoy. I feel strongly that is exactly what they have done. Café manager, Rochelle Durruthy has assembled a friendly customer oriented team and Chef Garrett Nyberg is producing some very tasty dishes.
Salad menuI love the menu, which is posted on a blackboard on the wall behind the amply stocked deli case containing some really delectable salads made fresh each morning. They have wonderful pastries and sandwiches, and the coffee is great too. I especially like the fact that if you need gluten free foods or prefer vegetarian dishes, these are clearly marked as (GF) or (V) on the menu.
On our first visit, Larry and I were delighted by the various combinations and we decided to be adventurous. Larry said he absolutely disliked Kale so he was not inclined to taste the Kale Salad, but to my surprise when I coaxed him to taste it, it quickly became “his” salad. I did paninimanage to get a few bites, but he now claims it is the best green salad he has ever tasted. We also enjoyed the Lentil Salad, the Pesto Mozzarella Tomato Panini, and the Red Pepper Gouda Soup. Each time we go back we try something new and it is all very good. The Salmon Wrap and the Green Pea and Pasta salad are possible new favorites as well.
When we visited with Jim, he commented, “Good health is the primary core to what we do.” This is a core value throughout the three service divisions to the company. The first is the Café where you can dine in a very friendly atmosphere, meet a client or friend or catch up on some messages since there is free WiFi. The second is a Breakfast and Lunch Delivery Service where your orders will be delivered direct to you and the third is Event Catering Services. Rochelle and Garrett can help you plan for an event from 5 guests to over 100. As boutique caterers, Taste Café can tailor the menu to the needs of the client. It is also important to note that the Café space is available for parties and events after regular hours.
Taste StaffIf you have not yet visited Taste Café and Fine Art, come to our Food Gathering on Wednesday, September 9th from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. You will get an opportunity to meet the owners and staff and enjoy tastes of featured café and catering menu items.
