We took the picture above when we got dressed up to go to a concert about 2 weeks ago. We are so happy about what we achieved in the past year and we are busy people who like food! To date, Larry has lost 60 lbs. and I have lost 40lbs.
We feel better and Larry’s doctors are thrilled. I am also pretty happy about replacing the “big girl” clothes in my closet. I went from tight size 16’s to size 10. Larry went from a 42 inch waist to a 36. Most importantly, we both feel better individually and together! I can’t promise this will happen for everyone, but I no longer have to take high blood pressure meds or anti-inflammatory meds for arthritic knees.
Here is our story. I knew I needed to lose weight but it really hit me when I saw myself in my son’s wedding pictures. What was I thinking to choose a “mother of the groom” dress with layers of chiffon ruffles? It was a lovely color, but when I saw the photo, the total effect looked like Miss Piggy wearing a frilly lamp shade. I am not even going to show a picture of me in that dress. Believe me it was not good. (The 2013 holiday photo above was taken at about the same time.)
A few months later, a friend of mine, who had recently become a health coach, stopped by my office and introduced me to the Take Shape for Life program. She helped me make one of the best decisions in my life. I started using the Medifast meal replacements 5 times per day along with a healthy lean protein and leafy green vegetable dinner and started to see progress with 5 lbs. lost the first week and about 2 lbs per week after that. After a couple of months of seeing what I was eating for dinner and observing results, my husband Larry tasted some of the Medifast foods and decided to join me. Medifast was an excellent way to get started to reach our goals. While we were in our weight loss program, we started making conscious choices in terms of choosing healthy foods and exercise that have become habits that continue on today. Larry has become an avid reader of food labels when we shop, calling himself “Professor Calorie”. We got the weight off without the aid of diet pills, magic fruits or hypnosis that you hear so much about in the media. The most important thing for us is that we are keeping the weight off through conscious choices that we enjoy.
I believe that having a personal coach really helped me and in a way I became Larry’s coach too. Last Summer I became a Certified Independent Health Coach and I want to help others.
