Spring is a busy time so I hope you are getting out to enjoy the sunshine. Exercise by walking is good for your health and your spirit. If you make walking a part of your everyday exercise program you will not only feel better but enjoy your surroundings.
Did you know that for every mile you walk, you can burn calories that helps with weight loss? I just read an article called “How to Walk for Weight Loss” by walking expert Wendy Bumgardner. She points out a calorie burning range that can be helpful for you. For each mile walked, a person weighing 180 lbs. can burn about 100 calories and someone weighing 120 lbs. can burn about 65 calories.
It’s not apparently the speed at which you walk that affects calories but the distance and your weight. You might want to start to keep track of your walking as there are some good free pedometer apps available for your cellphone. (If you have a favorite, let me now.) No matter what, I encourage you to enjoy the outdoors. Thirty minutes per day is recommended as a starting point in an exercise plan. I have never been one for a treadmill, so I enjoy getting outdoors. Just a half hour walk can add much to the enjoyment of your day. Consider walking around the block or better yet, check out the Centennial Trail. It is really beautiful now with wild flowers and trees in bloom.
