Peaches and More at Spokane Farmers Market

Not only are there wonderful peaches from the Cliffside Organic Orchard LLC , but lots of other wonderful produce can be found at the Spokane Farmers Market.  If you have not discovered this treasure you need to plan to check it out.  It is getting a bit late in the season, but local farmers will be at the Spokane Farmers Market on Wednesdays and Saturdays at the corner of 5th and Browne in downtown Spokane through October.  They are serious about featuring quality fresh produce.  To make purchases easier there is a booth where you can use your credit or debit card to purchase tokens to use to buy products.

Recently I got a chance to meet two producers who have been mainstays at the Spokane Farmers Market.  Jeff and Jeanette Herman have been growing wonderful fruit in their certified organic orchard near Kettle Falls since 1982.  Their fresh peaches are wonderfully sweet and the Red Globe variety in the front of the basket shown in the photo above weighed in at .88 lbs.  I thought that was pretty amazing as I don’t think I have ever seen a peach that size. After my visit to their booth last Saturday, I made a peach pie and only needed half the sweetener for the recipe.  I will be featuring my Peach Pie recipe in a future post.  I got a rave review from my tasting team (family) and the pie vanished so fast I did not get time to take a picture. Watch for news about my “Easy as Pie” Class to be offered this Fall.

This weekend at the Spokane Farmers Market, Cliffside Organic Orchard will have several varieties of apples. Bartlett Pears and more peaches. You can learn more about what they have to offer by going to www.cliffsideorchard.com.

I encourage you to get to know and support our local farmers who are making it possible for us to enjoy fresh healthy foods produced in our region.
