Do you have any New Year’s Resolutions?

I know I do. After all, the New Year is an exciting time that offers us a chance to start with a clean slate. 365 days stand in between us and the things we hope to achieve. While these resolutions can be an extraordinary motivator, they can also end up being pretty discouraging. I suspect we have all set resolutions for ourselves in the past that we have failed to accomplish. Unfortunately, we seem to focus more on the goals we fell short of rather than the ones we succeeded at. It is my hope that we can all show ourselves some grace, forget about past shortcomings, and set out to achieve better in 2020.

Working in the fitness industry, I have the unique opportunity to work alongside many people as they pursue their goals and resolutions. Some of my clients reach every single goal they ever set while others give up after just a few weeks.

So what is it the main difference between those who are successful in fitness and those who are not?
The answer is simple… Pursuing progression works. Pursuing perfection does not.

Every year, I hear people set resolutions like: I am going to exercise 7 days a week, give up all junk foods, give up all beverages besides water, and eat only fruits and veggies. These goals are all difficult, unrealistic, and make life pretty boring. After all, what good is being healthy if it means you can’t have a bowl of mint chocolate chip ice cream every once in a while??

Fitness is simple.

Exercise on a regular basis (2-3 times a week) and eat well 80% of the time. Do that consistently for the rest of your life and you will surpass every single goal you ever set.

If you want help getting started, I will be offering free 6-week programs to anyone who is interested.

Go earn better for yourself in 2020, and do it in a way you can stick with for the long haul.Pursue progression, not perfection.
